Union Aerospace Corporation
Since Katie's sleeping, I haven't had a whole lot to do this morning besides sit around and play Doom 3. What's more annoying than lost souls? A zombie with a pistol and a riot shield that apparently saves them from my plasma rifle. And what's with the screen getting blurry and shaky when I get hit by something? Okay, I get it, I'm dying. Can I get the little doom guy face back instead? The game is pretty good though. I love the little extra animations, like when the imp just hisses at you. And it gives me an extra second or two to pop him with my shotty.
Today? Finish Angel. Watch "The Ring". Maybe some Babylon 5. Probably laundry.
Must… Stop… Ego… From…. Inflating..
So I'm out of my old unit. No more 426. Now I'm in 3-327th RSTA and I'm so important. I'm the ONLY computer guy. And the colonel said that when I said I was a computer guy at our introduction briefing, he almost fell out of his chair. I have a key and a desk and a computer and papers. This is a major upgrade from my shitty old position of "commo lackey" who hardly ever did any computer work.
I'm still working on Doom 3. With the new job I've been pretty busy running all over the place but once I get settled into a routine, I'll figure in more free time to do dumb crap like play Doom 3 and update my livejournal.
Conspiracy
So I've been on a serious conspiracy / paranoia / aliens kick. I'm thinking about reinstalling Deus Ex. I never finished it because it got so damned hard near the end. And I bought the X-Files Mythology: Abduction collection. This thing is genius. Sixteen episodes spanning three seasons covering alien abductions. No monster-of-the-week episodes to guck up the story and it comes with a timeline if the episodes themselves aren't crystal clear enough. And there's going to be more of these collections. I never bothered to watch the X-Files when it aired because I thought it was boring because it never moved fast enough and was flooded with monster-of-the-week crap. Now I can skip the boring parts and get right into the conspiracies! Screw spending $100 per season to see the X-Files, now I can get the good parts for $30 a shot!
Time off
So this weekend is a four day weekend. Next weekend, a four day weekend (for me only because I rule). Weekend after next? 4th of July. Another 4 days. And the weekend after that I start my two weeks of leave. I'm only coming home for the 4th of July though. It's not that I don't miss hanging out with everyone back at home but I can't afford and don't want to make so many trips home. If Katie and I are DYING of boredom during my two weeks of leave, maybe we'll come back for a second time but don't count on it.
So the FTX. It uh sucked. The weather went from blazing hot to raining to blazing hot again. I did get to come home twice for a shower though. I spent nearly the whole time being a radio operator, which is hardly a computer guy's job but whatever. But all my work wasn't unnoticed. I was recognized in front of all the company commanders, first sergeants, the command sergeant major, and the colonel and given a three-day pass (basically a free three-day weekend) and a battallion coin (not a medal but the next best thing). And I did work. I worked my ass off for the last week and a half. I honestly believe I deserve all this time off for once.
I'm playing through Half-Life 2. It's amazing.
A new name
So I've had to rename my journal. Please don't ask why. And now it's friends-only. Again, don't ask why. It wasn't exactly my choice. So comment here to be added as a friend.
10 Days
10 days sleeping in tents. Which also means 10 days of reading, gameboy, and zoning out. BOOORING.
THIS has to be the funniest t-shirt I've ever seen. Oh and here's my time-off schedule:
June 24 - 27 (at home)
July 1 - 4 (in Springfield)
July 10 - 24 (at home)
Last Weekend
So last weekend was fantastic. Katie and I got into Springfield around 10pm on Thursday and I crashed once we got our stuff out of my car. Friday Katie took off with Lauri and did girl stuff while I played Halo 2 and got my muffler replaced and saw Star Wars Episode 3 with Frank. Then we ran around with Matt to our uh favorite (only) 24 hour stores. Saturday we sat around the house till it was time to go to Chris's for his birthday party. We played Star Wars Trivial Pursuit and Katie and I lost horribly. It was magnificent. We played some Republic Commando on xbox and it was rather crappy. And then I proceeded to stomp Jim, Chris, and Matt into oblivion with my Ghost and Scorpion in Halo 2. It's true, I've only got skills in a vehicle but then I'm death on wheels. Sunday the grandparents came over for a little cookout and that evening Katie and I went back to Chris's and played games with Chris and Amanda and Nicole. Monday we woke up late, packed up our stuff, and drove home.
So Episode 3. It was good. It wasn't fantastic but it was better than the last two. It was just way too predictable since everyone's already seen the three movies that take place after it. And what I think is worse is that if SOMEHOW someone hadn't seen the original trilogy and never had it spoiled for them, watching the prequels will ruin the moment in Empire when Darth Vader tells Luke that he's his father. So the Star Wars films gained three crappy prequels and lost one of the most pivotal moments in the original trilogy.
But thanks to seeing that I've downloaded the original trilogy in pre-special edition, laserdisc form and started playing Republic Commando and Jedi Knight 2 again. Jedi Knight 2 is so fun... if you ignore the first three levels. They suck. Balls.
The word of the day is SAUERKRAUT.
