Geoff and I played Advent Rising, as you suggested. I've just posted a review of it (and other games) on my blog: http://wiki.yak.net/~pretention

Haven't tried Far Cry, will probably do when it's $2 at Gamestop :)
My boss got a cracked version of Far Cry back when it first came out. I too was skeptical (I seem to remember the words "Halo killer" being used to describe it. My only complaint about the game was that, with the version that by boss had, every time you completed a level the game would crash and kick you back to the main menu. But, thanks to the crack, you could select what level you wanted to play at the main menu. Oh, and Halo killer it was not. And I was never really that amazed by Halo.
Halo Killer is taking it quite far. They're definitely two very different games for that matter.
